Overview

The service,
in plain terms.

What it is

Design, installation, repair and replacement of garden and boundary fencing, including posts, panels, gravel boards, matching gates and post repairs. Everything from a single blown-over panel to a full boundary replacement.

Who it's for

Homeowners replacing a tired boundary, new-build owners fencing off a shared plot, landlords fixing storm damage, and commercial premises needing secure or screening fencing for parking, bin stores or plant.

When you need it

After a Highland storm has taken panels down, when timber posts start snapping at ground level, when neighbouring boundaries no longer give privacy, before a new patio or landscaping job begins, or when a house move creates the chance to reset the boundary properly.

Why professional matters

A cheap fence installed on shallow, timber-post foundations lasts three to five winters here. Fencing done properly, concrete posts, gravel boards, correct-depth foundations, quality timber, lasts fifteen years or more. The upfront saving on a cheap job costs you the replacement.

What happens if you leave it

The cost of
putting it off.

Cheap timber posts rot at ground level

The point where a fence post meets the soil is where every fence dies. Timber posts sunk into wet Highland clay start rotting within a couple of years and snap in the first serious wind.

Storm damage keeps happening

One panel blown over is a repair. The same run of panels blowing over every couple of storms is a design problem, usually thin panels on inadequate posts. Endlessly repairing the wrong fence costs more than replacing it right once.

Boundaries drift and go rotten

Old fence lines that were never set properly can drift out of true, encroach on neighbours' land, or lose privacy at the base. Left long enough, it becomes a dispute rather than a repair job.

Why it's worth it

What you actually
get for the money.

Built for Highland weather

Concrete posts with correct-depth foundations don't twist, don't rot at ground level, and don't lift out in an autumn storm.

Fewer replacement panels over the years

A properly-built fence flexes with the wind rather than snapping. That's fewer emergency callouts and fewer £100 panel swaps every winter.

Level runs, aligned tops

Even on sloping ground, we step or rake the fence run so the top line reads clean. It's the detail that separates a professional fence from a DIY job.

Matching gates that actually work

Gates hung from correctly-braced posts, with proper hinges and latches, so they don't sag, drop, or refuse to close two winters in.

Better privacy at the base

Concrete gravel boards close the gap at the bottom, block low-level draughts, and stop panels rotting from the base up.

All fence types handled

Feather-edge and closeboard for privacy, lap panels for cost, picket for front gardens, ranch and post-and-rail for larger plots, one team, one quote.

Our process

How the job
gets done.

  1. 01

    On-site measure & quote

We walk the line with you, agree the type of fencing, count posts, gates and panels, and quote a fixed total. Access, ground conditions and disposal of old fencing are factored in.

  2. 02

    Remove old fencing

Existing panels, posts and old concrete foundations pulled out and taken away. The line is cleared back to workable ground.

  3. 03

    New foundations

Post holes dug to correct depth for the fence height, concrete posts set in fresh concrete, plumbed and levelled before we walk away for the day.

  4. 04

    Gravel boards, panels & rails

Concrete gravel boards drop in at the base to keep timber off wet ground, then panels or feather-edge boards fitted and secured with the appropriate fixings.

  5. 05

    Gates & final inspection

Matching gates fitted with proper ironmongery. We walk the finished run with you, check every gate swings, and clear all offcuts and old fencing from site.

Fence types we install

Feather-edge (closeboard), vertical overlapping boards nailed to horizontal arris rails. The most durable panel-alternative for privacy fencing and our default recommendation for boundaries that need to last. Lap panels, cheaper and quicker to install, but shorter lifespan; a fair choice if budget is tight and you accept panel replacements over the years. Picket fencing, 3ft or 4ft front-garden fencing in painted timber. Ranch and post-and-rail, for larger plots and rural properties where you want boundary definition without full privacy screening. Trellis toppers, side gates and matching field gates are all part of the range.

Why concrete posts are the default here

Traditional timber posts sunk into concrete foundations are the industry standard in drier climates. In the wet Highland climate, timber-in-ground fails at the joint between air and soil, wet, alkaline concrete plus airflow at the collar rots the post from the outside in. Concrete posts (with timber panels or feather-edge boards slotted in) don't have that failure mode. The posts outlast the panels, so any future maintenance is a panel swap rather than a full fence rebuild.

Gates: the detail that lets most fences down

Gates fail before fences do, usually because the gate posts weren't braced for the swing load, or because cheap hinges rusted through. We use gate posts sized for the gate weight, braced diagonally where needed, and quality galvanised hinges and latches. A well-hung timber gate should swing cleanly and latch reliably for a decade before needing anything beyond a squirt of oil.

Storm and one-off panel repairs

Not every fencing job is a full replacement. If two panels have gone in an autumn storm and the rest of the run is fine, we'll swap those two panels and re-secure adjacent ones. If a single post has snapped, we'll replace it and re-hang the panels around it. Where the whole line is on borrowed time we'll say so honestly rather than sell you a repair that won't hold.

Commercial and rural fencing

For commercial premises we handle bin-store screening, plant compounds, delivery-yard boundaries, and staff-parking demarcation. For rural properties we take on post-and-rail runs, stock fencing where straightforward, and equestrian-style boundary fencing. Specialist agricultural or fully stock-proof fencing is often better handled by a dedicated agricultural contractor and we'll refer accordingly.

FAQ

Common
questions.

Straight answers on cost, timing, materials and what happens after the job's done. Anything else, call 07398 794085.

How much does new fencing cost?+
Fencing is quoted per project, not per metre, the cost depends on length, height, style (feather-edge vs lap panels), number of posts and gates, ground conditions and access. Ballpark: replacing a small back-garden run is very different from a full boundary reset. We give you a fixed price after seeing the site.
How long does fencing installation take?+
A typical back-garden run of 15–20 metres, straight ground, one gate, takes two to three days including removal of the old fencing. Longer or more complex jobs run correspondingly longer. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote.
Do you replace individual damaged panels?+
Yes. If the rest of the fence run is sound, we're happy to do one-off panel repairs. If the whole run is failing and repairs will keep recurring, we'll say so honestly instead of stringing out repeat visits.
Do you use concrete or timber posts?+
Concrete posts as standard for anything meant to last in this climate. Timber posts are an option for lower-cost or picket-style work where the exposed post is part of the look, but we'll be clear on the shorter lifespan.
Can you match my existing fencing?+
In most cases yes, feather-edge, closeboard and standard lap-panel sizes are widely available. Very old or unusual profiles may need a compromise; we'll show you options at the quote.
Do you make and hang matching gates?+
Yes, matching side gates and field gates are part of the fencing service, hung on properly-braced posts with quality ironmongery.
What about my neighbour's side of the fence?+
You own and maintain your side of the boundary as legally documented. If a neighbour wants to share the job, a good idea, since it's cheaper and looks better, we can coordinate that, but each side of the boundary is billed to whoever owns it.
Which areas do you cover for fencing?+
Inverness, Nairn, Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon, Aviemore, the Black Isle, Muir of Ord and Beauly plus surrounding villages.
